Examples of National Initiatives Supporting the Achievement of this Goal
National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Plans
Bahrain is advancing its transition towards a more sustainable and low-carbon energy system through the National Renewable Energy Action Plan and the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan. These plans aim to expand renewable energy deployment, targeting a 20% contribution to the national energy mix by 2035, while improving energy efficiency across key sectors, including buildings, industry, transport, and electricity consumption. Together, they support the diversification of Bahrain’s energy mix, the reduction of carbon emissions, and the transition towards sustainable energy.
KAFA’A Energy Efficiency Program
Launched in 2023, the KAFA’A Energy Efficiency Program promotes energy-saving upgrades across public, commercial, and private sector buildings through accredited Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), helping reduce electricity consumption and operational costs.
Expanding Solar Energy Across Key Sectors
The Kingdom of Bahrain is expanding renewable energy adoption across public infrastructure, educational institutions, and industry under the National Renewable Energy Action Plan. Key initiatives include solar installations at Bahrain International Circuit, Khalifa Bin Salman Port, Bahrain National Stadium, and several universities, alongside industrial and private sector projects involving Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), Beyon, and the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY). These efforts are complemented by Foulath Holding’s 123-megawatt-peak solar project, announced in 2025, which is expected to generate approximately 200 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity in its first year. Together, these initiatives contribute to diversifying Bahrain’s energy mix, reducing carbon emissions, and accelerating the transition towards sustainable energy.
