Goal 1: No Poverty

Share this page:

End Poverty in All its Forms Everywhere

SDG 1 focuses on elevating standards of living, strengthening social protection systems, and ensuring access to essential services and resources for all. In this context, the Kingdom of Bahrain remains committed to improving the quality of life for all citizens, guided by the principles enshrined in the Constitution and the priorities of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. To deliver on this commitment, the Kingdom continues to strengthen targeted financial support program for eligible groups, while expanding high-quality job opportunities and investing in human capital development, thereby contributing to greater social and economic stability.

Examples of National Initiatives Supporting the Achievement of this Goal

The Royal Humanitarian Foundation’s Role in Strengthening Social Protection

The Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), established in 2001 under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, serves as Bahrain's leading humanitarian institution, providing social, health, and educational support while promoting long-term empowerment through initiatives such as the "Nitaj" program, which equips beneficiaries with productive and vocational skills to enhance economic inclusion and self-reliance.

Supporting Productive Families and Advancing their Economic Empowerment

The Kingdom of Bahrain continues its efforts to empower productive families and enhance their economic participation through national initiatives that support home-based businesses and provide opportunities to develop and market their products. Key initiatives include “Bahraini Hands”, which promotes and markets local products, and the “Productive Home” program, which supports home-based productive activities by enabling eligible commercial activities to be conducted from home under a simplified regulatory framework, thereby contributing to the growth of small enterprises and strengthening the economic independence of Bahraini families.

Enhancing Housing Financing Programs

The Kingdom of Bahrain continues to develop housing financing programs to facilitate citizens’ access to adequate housing and alleviate the associated financial burdens. In 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning launched the “Tasheel” and enhanced “Mazaya” programs to provide subsidized financing options in collaboration with commercial banks. In 2025, the Ministry expanded these options through the launch of the “Tasheel+” program, which increased the financing ceiling to BHD 91,000, and the “Tumooh” program, which provides supplementary grants of up to BHD 20,000 to beneficiaries of housing financing programs, thereby enhancing Bahraini families’ ability to meet their housing needs.

Digital Transformation of Social Support Services

The Kingdom of Bahrain continues to enhance social support services and facilitate citizens’ access to them through digital transformation and improved government efficiency. In 2025, the Ministry of Social Development launched comprehensive Electronic Services for Social Support Programs via the eGovernment portal using the eKey system, enabling beneficiaries to apply for and track financial assistance, update banking information, and inquire about entitlements without visiting service centers. A virtual customer service center was also introduced to handle inquiries remotely, ensuring equitable, fast, and transparent access to social support services while streamlining procedures and improving service quality.
