Bahrain to host IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in 2027

MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan announced that the Kingdom of Bahrain will host the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in 2027, further strengthening the Kingdom’s parliamentary and youth presence internationally.

The announcement was made during the participation of Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division delegation in the Conference of Young Parliamentarians, held as part of the 153rd General Assembly of the IPU. The delegation comprised MPs Hassan Ibrahim Hassan and Ali Saqr Al Doseri.

The hosting reflects Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division’s commitment to expanding youth participation in parliamentary work, strengthening cooperation with international parliamentary organisations, exchanging expertise and experiences, and highlighting Bahrain’s progress in the youth sector under the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

MP Hassan said that Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division, welcomed the Kingdom’s hosting of the conference. He affirmed Bahrain’s readiness to organise parliamentary events and programmes and utilise them to enhance parliamentary and youth relations and cooperation and achieve the desired objectives.

The conference reviewed views related to the theme of the General Debate of the General Assembly and discussed young parliamentarians’ perspectives on the draft resolution entitled “Inclusive social development for all: Parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and empowerment of people living with disabilities”, which is being considered by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights.

In another parliamentary development, the Bureau of the IPU Forum of Young Parliamentarians selected MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan as rapporteur representing young parliamentarians on two resolutions on the agenda of the IPU General Assembly.

The first concerns strengthening maritime security and protecting critical infrastructure during conflicts and the role of parliaments in protecting international navigation and global economic stability, and is being considered by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security. The second concerns parliamentary leadership in protecting mountain and marine ecosystems and achieving the goal of conserving 30% of natural areas by 2030, and is being considered by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development.

The conference also discussed recent developments in youth participation at the global and national levels, key achievements and challenges, means to draw conclusions and formulate recommendations, and the IPU’s current and upcoming activities to support youth participation.
