Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak inaugurated Casino Garden following the completion of its rehabilitation and facilities upgrade.
The project forms part of efforts to develop Muharraq’s urban environment while preserving its historical and cultural identity and enhancing public amenities and recreational spaces, in implementation of the Royal Order of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The minister said the renovated garden would enhance recreational facilities in Muharraq, given its central location near residential areas and shops, as well as its historical significance as one of the city’s oldest gardens and its importance to residents and visitors.
He highlighted the ministry’s commitment to developing parks and public facilities and providing integrated recreational spaces by expanding green areas, upgrading amenities and providing walking paths and sports facilities. These improvements would enhance the urban environment and offer residents and families more outdoor spaces. He also commended the engineering and technical teams involved in the project.
Salman bin Isa bin Hindi Al Mannai, Muharraq Governor, said the reopening of the renovated garden reflected Bahrain’s continued commitment to developing its cities and urban environments, with people at the centre of planning and development. He said these efforts support the Kingdom’s comprehensive development under the leadership of His Majesty the King and the directives of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He added that the project enhanced public amenities while preserving Muharraq’s historical and cultural identity alongside urban development. He stressed the importance of continuing to implement projects that meet residents’ needs, improve services and enhance the city’s appeal.
Abdulaziz Ahmed Al Nassar, Muharraq Municipal Council Chairman, said the renovated garden was a valuable addition to the city’s public facilities, providing green spaces and recreational and sports amenities for residents and families. He noted that the garden was a well-known landmark with a special place among residents.
He added that the improvements would provide a suitable environment for sports and recreational activities and encourage greater use of open spaces. He also emphasised the council’s commitment to working with the ministry and following up on projects that meet citizens’ needs, develop Muharraq and preserve its historical character.
The rehabilitation works included upgrading the garden’s facilities and components in line with Muharraq’s development plan, while preserving its historical character and enhancing the surrounding urban landscape.
Covering an area of 23,158 square metres, the project included the installation of modern, safe playground equipment with rubber flooring, the construction of a multi-purpose sports court, and the development of walking paths and walkways. It also involved improving lighting and landscaping, providing a sports warm-up area, a service building, public amenities and car parking, and installing security cameras.
The project also includes planting around 479 shade trees and adding ground cover across approximately 11,451 square metres. The garden currently has around 536 trees. An automated irrigation system has also been installed to expand green spaces and enhance the garden’s overall appearance.
