Industry Ministry, Safaa sign MoU to advance industrial sustainability

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Safaa W.L.L., a company specialising in sustainability solutions, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support the transition towards a more sustainable industrial sector and improve the environmental performance of industrial facilities in Bahrain.

Eman Ahmed Al Doseri, Industry and Commerce Ministry Undersecretary, and Talal Arif Al Oraifi, Safaa Chief Executive Officer signed the MoU, in the presence of Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Industry and Commerce Minister, on the sidelines of the inaugural Made in GCC Forum and Exhibition.

The MoU supports Bahrain’s efforts towards a green economy and sustainable industrial practices through the development and enhancement of the Green Factory Label initiative, launched by the Ministry in December 2023 in line with the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022–2026) and the Kingdom’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

The initiative aims to encourage factories to adopt environmentally responsible practices, improve operational efficiency and utilise innovative solutions and technologies, contributing to the advancement of the green economy, environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, and the environmental performance of industrial facilities.

The MoU also covers cooperation in measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints, preparing emissions inventories and related reports, identifying suitable solutions to reduce, manage and offset emissions, and organising training workshops and awareness programmes on the latest developments and practices in environmental sustainability.

The partnership will enable industrial facilities to use technology and data to better understand and manage their environmental impact, supporting data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement of environmental practices and greater industrial competitiveness. Safaa will provide technological solutions to help facilities measure and manage key environmental indicators across their operations, including carbon emissions, water consumption and waste management, as well as prepare ESG reports and develop emissions reduction and decarbonisation plans.

Minister Fakhro said the Ministry supports industrial facilities in adopting more sustainable practices that enhance efficiency and competitiveness. He noted that the MoU would contribute to developing the Green Factory Label initiative and leveraging specialised technical solutions and expertise to help factories measure and manage emissions and build capacity in this field.

He added that the Made in GCC Forum and Exhibition provides an opportunity to expand cooperation and exchange expertise in support of the transition towards more sustainable and competitive industries across the GCC.

Safaa CEO said the MoU reflects the company’s commitment to supporting national sustainability efforts and serving as a trusted partner for public and private sector institutions.

He described the partnership as an important step in enabling the industrial sector to proactively understand and manage its environmental impact, stressing that sustainability is not only a regulatory requirement but also an opportunity to enhance operational efficiency and long-term competitiveness.

Al Oraifi affirmed Safaa’s commitment to supporting Bahrain’s environmental goals, including the target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, in partnership with the Ministry and leading industrial facilities in the Kingdom.
