His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifainaugurated the Bahrain Mangroves initiative by planting several mangrovestoday at the Royal Bahraini Air Force.
His Highness highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment totackling climate change and its target to quadruple mangroves coverage by 2035.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman underscored that communitypartnership is essential to the success of the Kingdom’s afforestation plan andthe Kingdom's environmental goals and broader aspirations.
This partnership also supports the National Action Plan’sinitiatives to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, in line with the vision ofHis Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His RoyalHighness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and PrimeMinister.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman affirmed the Kingdom’scommitment to implementing initiatives and plans that preserve the environment,ensure resource sustainability, and create a better future for all.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman noted the tireless efforts ofthe Supreme Council for the Environment, led by the Personal Representative ofHis Majesty the King, His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, theMinistry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and all concernedauthorities in combating climate challenges, preserving the environment, andenhancing biodiversity.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman commended the Bahrain DefenceForce's support to all initiatives that aim to achieve security andbiodiversity.
HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman stressed the importance ofraising awareness about environmental preservation, particularly throughexpanding Bahrain’s green spaces and increasing mangrove plantations. HH notedthat mangroves are crucial in mitigating climate change and maintainingecological balance.
The Kingdom of Bahrain has committed to reducingcarbon emissions by 30% by 2035 and reach net zero in 2060. This aligns withseveral key national initiatives, including the National Action Plan’s"Blueprint Bahrain" to achieve carbon neutrality, the Kingdom'safforestation plan, which aims to increase the number of trees to 3.6 millionby 2035, and National Tree Week, held annually on the third week of October.
To amplify awareness, the social media account@BahrainMangroves was launched to provide insights into the importance ofmangroves, planting techniques, and general updates on the Kingdom’senvironmental efforts.
Several senior officials attended the event.
