Interior Minister receives WHO certification

General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, received Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate.

Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, was present.

Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah received the World Health Organisation (WHO) certification recognising the Capital Governorate as a "Healthy Governorate" making it the first governorate in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to receive this designation.

The minister congratulated the Capital Governorate on this national achievement, emphasising that the implementation of the Healthy Cities Project across the governorate's contributes to advancing sustainable development goals, in line with the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by the government, under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Gen. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah highlighted the importance of this achievement in improving the quality of life and fostering community partnerships to achieve public health goals.

The minister commended the role of the Ministry of Health in achieving this international certification for the Capital Governorate as a "Healthy Governorate."

He commended the development initiatives and projects launched by the governorate, implemented in collaboration with relevant entities to enhance communication with citizens and meet their needs, while integrating modern technologies to ensure the safety and security of residents.

The Healthy Cities Programme was initiated by the Capital Governorate in 2017, with Umm Al Hassam declared a Healthy City in 2018, followed by Manama in 2021, making it the first Healthy Capital in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The programme was later expanded to all villages and cities in the governorate, earning it recognition as the region's first Healthy Governorate.

The minister thanked the Capital Governor and all personnel involved for their efforts in achieving this milestone, wishing them continued success in serving the Kingdom.
