28/07/2025
The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) has completed the fourth phase of the National Afforestation Campaign, 'Forever Green', planting 6,589 trees and shrubs across 24 sites in various governorates of the Kingdom. The total planted area reached 11,757 square metres, with 4,793 linear metres planted.
The planted locations included 15 sites under the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and 9 sites belonging to other official institutions. The campaign was supported by a total funding of 109,911 Bahraini Dinar, contributed by national institutions and supporting companies.
Tree species were carefully selected in alignment with the government’s sustainability plan and natural resource protection goals. The focus was on plants resilient to local climatic conditions and beneficial to the ecosystem, including Arabian acacia, Casuarina, Acacia, Hibiscus tiliaceus, Poinciana, mangrove, and neem trees. These species play an important role in combating desertification, improving air quality, boosting biodiversity, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of NIAD, expressed pride in the results achieved. She emphasised that the campaign not only protects the environment but also supports the national economy, benefiting eight Bahraini contractors who contributed to planting and maintenance work, thereby creating jobs and empowering local talent.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa underscored that the campaign adopts a sustainability approach through a comprehensive plan to maintain the planted greenery and ensure its continuity. In cooperation with KAF Humanity, volunteer teams were formed across all governorates to monitor the condition of the plantations and provide regular reports on the health of the trees, ensuring the sustainability of these environmental achievements.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa said that the launch of the fifth phase of the campaign in October will involve new qualitative projects that will continue to support Bahrain’s goals for green expansion and national efforts to combat climate change.
