HRH The Deputy King visits Muharraq and directs the commencement of the Muharraq Development Plan

In implementation of the Royal Order of His Majesty KingHamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to preserve the historical and cultural identity ofBahrain’s buildings and cities, to renovate the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, and todevelop Muharraq in a way that preserves its storied identity, the Deputy King,His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, today visited the Isa AlKabeer Palace, the Pearling Path, and historic and traditional houses inMuharraq. The visit marked the implementation of the Muharraq Development Plan,and the plan to preserve the historical and cultural identity of Bahrain’s buildingsand cities.

 

His Royal Highness affirmed that Muharraq, as HM the Kingexpressed, is the "Mother of Cities," a place rich with authenticityand heritage.

 

HRH the Deputy King affirmed that Muharraq and its peoplehold a special place in the hearts of all Bahrainis and its people carryinspirational stories that have become intertwined with the Kingdom’s history,making them a source of pride and role models for future generations.

 

During the visit to the Isa Al Kabeer Palace, His RoyalHighness was briefed on the Muharraq Development Plan, which aligns with HM theKing’s Royal Order.

 

The development plan is based on five pillars: preservingthe historical identity of Muharraq, providing housing units that meet therequirements of Bahraini families, preserving heritage buildings, increasingand diversifying the greenery in the governorate, and developing infrastructureservices and public facilities.

 

In this regard, HRH the Deputy King directed the immediatecommencement of the Muharraq Development Plan’s procedures which encompassesacquisitions, detailed designs, and implementation of the plan. 

 

His Royal Highness also directed the completion of thePearling Path project.

 

HRH the Deputy King affirmed that the government is honouredto assume the responsibility of implementing the Royal Orders to preserve thehistorical and cultural identity of the buildings and cities of Bahrain. Thiswill include all the governorates of Bahrain in accordance with HM the King’swishes, achieving the aspirations of the Bahraini people.

 

The area under development in Muharraq spans 1.4 millionsquare metres and will feature green spaces covering an area of 12,000 squaremetres, heritage buildings, alongside new and renovated housing units, as wellas multi-storey car parks, standard car parks, and walkways.

 

His Royal Highness was accompanied by His Highness ShaikhIsa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of theIsa bin Salman Charity Educational Endowment, the Deputy Prime Minister, HEShaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, HE GeneralShaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, and a number of senior officials.
