Government Hospitals, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, organised an awareness programme to promote community awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and addiction and highlight the importance of treatment, rehabilitation and support for recovering patients.

The programme featured awareness and educational activities highlighting the specialised treatment, rehabilitation, psychological and social services provided by the addiction treatment unit at the psychiatric hospital. A number of recovering patients were also honoured in recognition of their determination to overcome addiction and begin a new chapter in their lives.

Dr. Mariam Athbi Al Jalahma, Chief Executive Officer of Government Hospitals, underlined the importance of cooperation among the health, security and community sectors to strengthen prevention, treatment and rehabilitation efforts and protect individuals, families and society from the risks of drug abuse.

She said Government Hospitals continue to develop integrated treatment and rehabilitation services that address the health, psychological and social needs of patients and support their long-term recovery and reintegration into society.

Dr. Shaima Ali Bucheery, Chief of Medical Services at the Psychiatric Hospital, said the addiction treatment unit provides comprehensive treatment, rehabilitation, psychological and social programmes based on professional best practices to help patients overcome addiction and regain stability.

Dr. Bucheery also commended the Ministry of Interior's efforts to combat drug abuse and raise public awareness of its dangers, highlighting the importance of cooperation in strengthening prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
