The Ministry of Sustainable Development held a workshop on environment and climate related Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators. The session was held remotely in cooperation with the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with the participation of experts and statisticians from relevant government entities.

The workshop is part of the Ministry’s ongoing programme to update national SDG indicator data. It aims to improve data quality, ensure timeliness and continuity, and strengthen national statistical capacities.

The session focused on explaining the methodology for calculating 23 environmental and climate related SDG indicators under the responsibility of UNEP. Key themes included natural resource management, sustainable consumption and production, biodiversity protection, green financing, and environmental technologies.

Participants also reviewed procedures for verifying data quality and emphasised the importance of coordination to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and sustainability.

Representatives from UNEP commended Bahrain’s ongoing efforts in supporting environmental and climate issues and its commitment to strengthening statistical infrastructure and data quality.

Participants highlighted the importance of such workshops in fostering collaboration across institutions and producing accurate, up to date data that reflects the Kingdom of Bahrain’s progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
