Bahrain participates in Future Summit in New York

Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of ForeignAffairs, participated in the Summit of the Future, which began on Sunday at theUnited Nations headquarters in New York.

 

The summit was chaired by António Guterres, UNSecretary-General, with the participation of Philemon Yang, President of theGeneral Assembly in its 79th session, and heads of state, government officials,and ministers representing member states.

 

During the conference, Dr. Al Zayani delivered a speechconveying the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Majesty’swishes that the summit would yield positive and tangible outcomes aligned withthe goals outlined in the "Pact for the Future" under discussion.

 

Dr. Al Zayani remarked that the world today facessignificant and interconnected challenges, requiring a swift redirection ofefforts and a renewed commitment from the international community to worktogether effectively.  He emphasised that addressing these challengesinvolves more than just tackling immediate threats to peace, security,prosperity, and development.  It calls for addressing the fundamentalissues, including equitable and sustainable development, broader access toscience and technology, youth education and empowerment, and effectivecooperation to prevent or resolve conflicts while upholding international law.

 

The minister further added that Bahrain is fully committedto these goals, guided by its core values and principles and in line with thevision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He highlighted thatBahrain, under His Majesty’s leadership, had worked diligently to ensure theArab Summit hosted by the Kingdom last May resulted in productive andconstructive decisions.

 

He noted that the 33rd Arab Summit, "BahrainSummit," reflected a unified Arab stance on the need to resolve theIsraeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution, establishing asovereign and viable Palestinian state.  The summit also adopted Bahrain’sinitiative to host an international peace conference in the Middle East toadvance this solution and support full membership for Palestine at the UnitedNations.

 

Dr. Al Zayani added that the summit also demonstrated theArab states' commitment to addressing broader humanitarian and developmentalchallenges, including initiatives to expand access to healthcare and educationfor those affected by regional conflicts, in collaboration with relevant UNagencies, and to enhance cooperation in financial technology for the prosperityof the region.

 

Noor bint Ali Al Khulaif, Minister of SustainableDevelopment; Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to theUnited States; Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of theMinistry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs; Ambassador Jamal Fares AlRowaiei, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN; Dana Emad Hamza, Assistant Undersecretary for Sustainable Development at the Ministry ofSustainable Ministry; and Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Director General ofInternational Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended thesummit.
