The Royal MedicalServices (RMS) for Hospitals of the Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) successfullyconducted five malignant tumour removal surgeries using the Hugorobotic-assisted surgery system. Those are the first robotic surgeries inBahrain.
Dr. Ayman Raees, Consultant Urologist and Acting Chief of Medical Staff, ledthe team in performing three prostate cancer surgeries on patients in theirfifties and sixties, one kidney tumour removal, and one adrenal gland tumourremoval on a patient in her 30s. All procedures were successful with nocomplications.
Brigadier General Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, theCommander of RMS, highlighted that the acquisition of Hugo robotic-assistedsurgery system makes the RMS the first medical institution in the Middle Eastand North Africa to adopt this technology. This development aims to enhancehealthcare services and ensure a high-quality health environment for allcommunity members.
On his part, Dr. Raees noted that the Hugo robotic-assisted surgery systemoffers superior precision, control, and flexibility compared to traditionalsurgeries, leading to quicker patient recovery and shorter hospital stays. Thesystem features a 3D camera and four robotic arms equipped with surgicalinstruments, allowing the surgeon to control the arms via a remote console, reducing infection risks and improving surgical outcomes.
Looking ahead, the hospital plans to use the robotic system for varioussurgeries, including general surgery, gynaecology, and bariatric surgery, tocontinue providing state-of-the-art medical services.
