WHO renews accreditation of University of Bahrain nursing department as collaborating centre

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has renewed the accreditation of the Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sport Sciences at the University of Bahrain as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development in the Eastern Mediterranean Region for another four years, in an achievement that reflects the university’s academic and professional standing at the regional and international levels.

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, affirmed that the renewal represents a new strategic achievement that reflects the continued confidence placed by WHO in the university. He noted that it also highlights the university’s contributions to developing health education and scientific research and building professional capacities in nursing and midwifery, affirming its commitment to preparing qualified cadres in accordance with international standards.

Dr. Leena Mohammed Khonji, Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences and Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development, said that over the past few years, the centre has implemented several initiatives to support the organisation’s efforts to invest in the health workforce and advance the achievement of the Health for All goal.

She also highlighted the centre’s plans to expand the scope of regional and international cooperation and prepare health leaders and nursing cadres capable of addressing future health challenges.

Dr. Asad Hafeez, Acting Representative of the World Health Organisation in Bahrain, welcomed the renewal of the accreditation of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Development, affirming that bringing together the global role and standards of WHO with the expertise of the Kingdom will open broad prospects for benefiting from high-quality training and contribute to strengthening the capacities of the health workforce, thereby laying solid foundations for universal health coverage and making the Health for All slogan a reality.
