the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agricultureplanted 2,000 mangrove saplings along the western coast of Aker, as part of theBahrain Mangrove initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salmanbin Hamad Al Khalifa. The initiative was carried out in partnership with theNational Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) and supported by ZainBahrain.
The event was attended by Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak,Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture; Shaikha Maram bint Isa AlKhalifa, Secretary General of NIAD; MP Mohsen Al Asbool; Shaikh Mohammed binAhmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for the Municipalities Affairs and AgricultureMinistry Ministry; Asim Abdullatif, Undersecretary of Agriculture and AnimalWealth Affairs; Mohammed Zainalabedin, General Manager at Zain Bahrain; andSaleh Tarada, Chairman of the Capital Municipality Council.
The minister highlighted the Bahrain Mangrove initiative asa reflection of HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman's leadership in supportingmangrove planting efforts in Bahrain. He noted that the initiative aligns withnational plans to quadruple mangrove coverage by 2035, emphasising Bahrain’scommitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and biodiversityconservation. The minister also commended the collaboration between public andprivate sectors in achieving these goals.
The minister noted the initiative's role in raisingawareness about mangrove planting, enhancing community participation, and supportingBahrain’s National Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, in linewith the Kingdom's climate commitments.
Shaikha Maram bint Isa emphasised the importance of theinitiative in advancing environmental sustainability goals. She expressedappreciation for the collaboration between NIAD and the ministry, as well asZain Bahrain’s support. She looked forward to similar future projects,highlighting Bahrain’s strategic efforts to expand mangrove coverage tomitigate carbon emissions and meet international climate and sustainabilitycommitments.
MP Mohsen Al Asbool commended the initiative forhighlighting the environmental benefits of mangroves and fostering communitypartnerships to achieve ecological objectives.
Abdullatif underscored the significance of the initiative inenhancing mangrove plantation efforts and the value of partnerships with NIADand private organisations in advancing this national project.
Zainalabedin emphasised the company’s commitment toenvironmental responsibility and support for mangrove planting as part of itsbroader sustainability strategy to promote a greener future.
This initiative, part of the fourth phase of the"Forever Green" campaign, aligns with Bahrain’s efforts to achievecarbon neutrality, enhance green spaces, and advance sustainable developmentgoals.
