Manama, Dec. 27 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today met with His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at Gudaibiya Palace, to review the latest developments in mangrove cultivation in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ongoing implementation of all development initiatives, emphasising the importance of fulfilling the plans to achieve environmental security to support the Kingdom's comprehensive development led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

His Royal Highness was briefed by the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, HE Eng Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, regarding the latest developments in mangrove cultivation in the Kingdom. A total of 749,000 mangroves were planted by the end of November this year, achieving 163% of the original goal of 460,000 by the end of 2023.

During the meeting, the Kingdom’s accomplishments during 2023 in implementing His Royal Highness’ directives of afforestation in various governorates across Bahrain were reviewed. These directives are in line with the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon neutrality by 2060 as part of Bahrain's international contribution to combating climate change.

His Royal Highness expressed pride in the efforts of the national workforce responsible for the afforestation efforts, as their determination to succeed placed Bahrain's 2023 National Afforestation Plan and mangrove cultivation ahead of schedule.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister emphasised that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to prioritise initiatives that combat climate change, which is reflected in the implementation of numerous projects and programmes.

His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), also attended the meeting.
