Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Sustainable development is how we must live today if we want a better tomorrow, by meeting present needs without compromising the chances of future generations to meet their needs.

According to the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 global goals adopted in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. They address critical challenges, including education, health, equality, economic growth, climate action, and environmental sustainability, recognizing that progress in one area affects outcomes in others. The SDGs require global cooperation among governments, the private sector, and civil society to create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future.

The SDGs are measured using 248 indicators that track progress toward 169 specific targets set under the 17 goals. These indicators provide data on economic, social, and environmental aspects to assess global and national efforts.

A Voluntary National Review (VNR) is a country-led report that tracks national progress on the SDGs and is presented at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development. The VNR aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences, including successes, challenges, and lessons learned, with a view to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The VNRs also seek to strengthen policies and institutions of governments and to mobilize multi-stakeholder support and partnerships for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Kingdom of Bahrain submitted two VNRs as of yet; you can find the Kingdom of Bahrain’s VNR (Here).

You can explore Bahrain’s SDG Portal for the latest reports, updates, and details on national initiatives.

Individuals can support the SDGs by adopting sustainable habits, participating in community initiatives, and promoting responsible consumption and innovation. For more on how you can contribute to the SDGs, click (Here)
