HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman inaugurates the second phase of planting Ghaf trees
16/02/2026
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa today planted a Ghaf tree to mark the launch of the second phase of the initiative, with the Kingdom aiming to plant 100,000 Ghaf trees.

His Highness set out the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to enhance environmental security and address the challenges posed by climate change, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman noted that Bahrain is committed to implementing plans that reinforce environmental sustainability, improve the efficiency of natural resource management, and strengthen community awareness on the importance of environmental protection in order to work towards achieving the Kingdom's sustainable development goals and securing a better future.

His Highness stated that the launch of this phase supports the implementation of the National Action Plan’s initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, in line with the vision of His Majesty the King.

His Highness also underscored the importance of accelerating progress under Bahrain’s National Afforestation Plan to help achieve environmental goals.

Ghaf trees are distinguished by their ability to adapt to harsh environmental conditions, particularly in desert areas. Their roots enhance soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, and they are highly tolerant of drought and soil salinity, while also enhancing the aesthetics of their surroundings.

Several senior officials, as well as Fahad Mohammed bin Kardous Al Ameri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Kingdom of Bahrain, attended the inauguration.
