The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), in coordination with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, organised a youth-focused workshop on innovation in waste management as part of its environmental awareness initiatives. The event was held as part of a series of awareness workshops organised by SCE in celebration of National Environment Day, aimed at protecting the environment and encouraging innovation in waste management.

Amna Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of SCE, said that youth represent a fundamental pillar in supporting national environmental efforts. She highlighted the importance of investing in their ideas and creative capacities to develop innovative solutions that enhance recycling systems and environmental sustainability.

Al Rumaihi added that the workshop reflects SCE’s commitment to empowering youth and strengthening partnership with the ministry, in line with the Kingdom’s approach to engaging young people in environmental and development initiatives.

Nani Butti, Assistant Undersecretary for Support and Initiatives at the Ministry of Youth Affairs, said the ministry is committed to empowering and supporting youth to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through their innovative ideas and initiatives. She noted that MYA seeks to strengthen the role of young people in decision-making and active participation in national development by building strategic partnerships across sectors, enabling them to showcase their vision and capabilities, enhance their positive societal impact, and contribute to shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for the Kingdom.

The workshop addressed themes, including sound waste management practices in the Kingdom and key approved environmental practices, in addition to highlighting distinguished recycling experiences through the Bahraini Zero Waste initiative.

It also featured group working sessions, during which participants were divided into teams to develop technological solutions for waste collection and recycling, followed by a discussion of the outcomes.
