In partnership with UN, Bahrain and Portugal launch 27th Supplement of Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council
05/02/2026
The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the Portuguese Republic and the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, hosted an event today to launch the 27th Supplement of the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council. The event is entitled "Practice of the Security Council: Launch of the 27th Supplement of the Repertoire and of the Voting Records".

The launch was attended by representatives from various United Nations entities, diplomatic missions, and subject matter experts and featured the introduction of a new set of Security Council voting data and an interactive dashboard for users.

The event coincides with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s membership on the Security Council for the 2026–2027 term and reinforces a longstanding United Nations practice established over more than seven decades.

Since 1952, the General Assembly has entrusted the Security Council Affairs Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs with the preparation of the repertoire.

In his remarks, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, said the initiative reflects Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing effective engagement within the United Nations, noting that the updated supplement and voting records are not just archival documents but vital resources that strengthen public understanding of how the Security Council functions. He emphasised that these tools were developed to improve member states’ access to reliable information on Security Council practice through a user-friendly platform.

Ambassador Al Rowaie added that the ongoing updating of the repertoire and analytical tools supports not only research and analysis but also practical diplomacy, helping member states prepare for negotiations and participate more effectively in discussions related to peace and security. This, he said, contributes to the principles of multilateral diplomacy and underscores the role of the United Nations Secretariat in supporting transparency and inclusivity in the work of the Security Council.

Participants at the event were briefed on analytical outputs, guided on how to use the dataset and associated search tools, and introduced to the interactive dashboard that consolidates Security Council voting records, offering insights into voting patterns, decision making trends, and visual representations that enhance transparency in the Council’s work.
